Wow. #WTF peeps!? How is it possible that a training ship of the Mexican Navy, and a TALL SHIP at that, did NOT know that the Brooklyn FUCKING Bridge wasn’t TALL enough for their TALL SHIP to pass under!!?? Just WOW!! #breakingnews #mexico #newyorkcity #bridgecollision apnews.com/article/b…

A tall ship, part of the training fleet for the Mexican Navy, is shown moored near the Brooklyn Bridge, all three of its masts snapped off near the top after colliding with the bridge.

@combatdavey Yeah. Apparently the early reports say that the ship lost power and drifted badly in the strong currents.

Won't be the first time someone paid for that bridge.

@tylerknowsnothing it travelled under the bridge in REVERSE. Something very strange. BBC reporting 2 dead and 22 injured

@tylerknowsnothing I’ve sailed in several NY Harbor Tall Ship operations , and this one seems to have come to grief when an idiot tug captain towed her backward under the low clearance Brooklyn side of the bridge from 4th Street Seaport.

Class A’s pass under the George Washington Bridge all the time.

@rhymerepartee Oh no! I found out later that it was going in reverse from a contributor on CNN and with new video from across the river.

@jadehunter.bsky.social It’s being reported that the powerplant failed, but if the tug I saw in one video had a hand in this, that’s terrible!

@tylerknowsnothing Details are still emerging videos show a steel maintenance gantry hanging ~15 feet under the bridge.

Absent a Notice to Navigators warning of this temporary obstruction, the vessel’s officers may have mistakenly believed what the NY pilot book said, and thought they had ample clearance
