Listen to The Current’s first two hours of music from 2005

My favorite local radio station turns 20 years old today. This is a wonderful trip down memory lane. I heard this live when it happened and have been listening near daily ever since.

@patrickrhone I learned of so many good artists through their song of the day podcast. A great station indeed.

@ptrck Same. Recently, last night I very much enjoyed this episode of Transmission featuring one hit wonders of the 1980’s.

@ptrck You just reminded me I still “own” songoftheday.tumblr.com. I should probably do something with that.

@ptrck I’ll pass. I did 15 years as a music writer/critic. That’s more than enough.

@ptrck I have to admit that, listening to the 2 hour rebroadcast now, hearing more than a few of these songs I’m like, “Wait, that song is 20 years old!?!?”

It’s sobering.

@patrickrhone one of my favorite parts about getting old is when I’m somewhere like the supermarket or waiting room and a song comes on that I wasn’t allowed to listen to when I was a kid. 🤣

@patrickrhone I know we’ve had some music conversations over the years. Would you have any interest in doing a Crucial Tracks interview? From what I remember of your stories, I’d be very interested in reading yours! anyway, if you are interested, details are here: endonend.craft.me/crucial

@endonend This sounds great. Give me a bit to think about and send you my answers. This will be hard.

@patrickrhone Awesome - thank you so much! It is a bit hard, but it’s a fun journey. The new format I linked is a bit simpler and more straightforward than the first few interviews, so hopefully that helps. (Feedback has been good so far, at least.)

@endonend Just a note that I’ve been filling out the questionnaire. I’m about half way through. Should have something to you soon.

@patrickrhone awesome. Thanks so much! I’m making Crucial Tracks my joy to get through the anger and sadness, so can’t wait to read it.

@endonend OK, a warning: I’m finding myself basically doing an American Psycho style essay response for one of the questions. I think it’s worth the passion.

(And if you’ve never read the book by Bret Easton Ellis you have little idea what I’m talking about but what I’m trying to say is it’s long, detailed, and effusive)

@patrickrhone your passion and way with words was a big reason why I wanted to ask you to participate. 😄
