I've not had a bed side lamp for years but, to better facilitate writing by hand rather than by phone, I dug one out of our spare room.

They say you should always keep a pen and pad by your bed but it's no good if it's too dark to use them.

@colinwalker the backlighting on pen and paper is crap, but the battery life is amazing.
