Domain squatters are a great example of the great extent to which we have fucked up the web.

@cn It's the kind of thing that helps me to feel sympathy for those people who very much like the idea of "an ethical web" but just can't tolerate all of the complicated nonsense to do with "owning your identity."

@simonwoods I suspect I have registered too many domains over the years…

@simonwoods I’m feeling guilty after having had an idea and going out of my way to grab an .es domain, which I may not use.

@hall @cn It would be great if there was a limit on auto-renew. Maybe no more than two years in a row without valid use (active site, provably used, etc).

Although I would also just want to limit prices (anything more than £50 for a registration is beyond ridiculous) and I know a lot of "freedom-loving people" frown on that sort of thing. 🙄

@simonwoods Good ideas - I only took mine for a year, so if not used it’ll be released.

@simonwoods Well, it did earn this public minded citizen $1.7 million. 🙄
