A little JSON–wrangling later, I have the absent comments from @colinwalker in the comments/webmentions on, my copy of, the thread I started

It is a Raspberry Pi 3 B running in my loft, perhaps it couldn’t handle the attention?

I found the data as subtype “Idno\Entities\Notification” entities in the entities table; they were just absent from the longblob contents entry of the entity with the thread of comments
