@cn I've wondered but never looked into it deeply. Do you get to reclaim the materials when a printing fails? Like can they be melted down and reused?

@toddgrotenhuis the possibility exists, but it has its own complications; reducing the failure down to smaller bits, possibly re–extruding those granules as another filament (and then hope not to repeat the failure)

@toddgrotenhuis another option (besides a granulator and a filament extruder) is to dissolve the plastic in its solvent to use as a filler and adhesive; ABS in acetone, PLA in dichloromethane; I expect there is something for PETg and others used for 3D prints.
