Tina Turner passed away today, which is sad.
A bit of social media platform data - I saw a single post about it on Mastodon, and many posts about it on BlueSky. This continues to reinforce how I think of these platforms.

@cleverdevil 6 mentions on my Mastodon and 3 on Bluesky for me. So maybe itās just who you follow?
And yours was the first on Micro.blog about it so š¤·š½āāļø I would argue that it doesnāt matter when or how much I hear about certain news because that depends on each platform is designed to elicit the type of behavior we see on those apps.
@pratik itās definitely a lot about who I choose to follow, but I do also think it reflects on the networks themselves.
@cleverdevil Agree but I like to reflect on our expectations (I was guilty of this as well). Why do we expect instant news or reactions from everyone on our follow list about the said instant news? Isnāt that just leading to performative posting? E.g., if I donāt post about Tina Turnerās death, my followers will think I donāt care about her. This thought follows after the race to post the news first ends.
@pratik yeah totally fair. For what itās worth, I donāt actually have any expectations, I just am commenting on what I am seeing :)
@cleverdevil Yup I know. I hope you didnāt feel like I am calling you out on anything but wanted to put my thoughts out there in case people inferred from your observations š
@pratik hah, no worries at all, and I definitely took your responses the way you intended. š
