I see people defending hateful views by using religion as a crutch. Does your religion *really* require you to question the identity of the entire LGBTQ+ community? Find out for sure. If you conclude that the answer is “yes,” perhaps consider what that implies about your religion.

@cleverdevil Sincere question, not meant to be combative (but on a fraught topic): I don't know what defenses you've read or what you mean by "question the identity of the entire LGBTQ+ community." Can you link on the former or elaborate the latter or something?

@ReaderJohn totally fair question! My frustration was sparked by some recent offensive comments by Tony Dungy, an American Football coach, about gender identity. Specifically, he was mocking the trans community, and amplifying the view that gender identity and sex are not different things. He later deleted the tweet and apologized, but has a long history of such behavior.

He has oft justified his views by saying that he is a Christian, and defenders are chiming in and agreeing with him, effectively saying that its okay to be anti-gay / anti-trans because "that's what the Bible says."

@cleverdevil Thanks. I had seen that USA today column (I’m 60 miles from Indy, so I tend to notice Colts-related things.)
