This morning I decided to opt out of smartphones by ordering a Mudita Pure. I’ll keep my iPhone SE in a drawer for use during international travel and/or in case I wind up hating not having a smartphone. But I’m excited for the change.

@cjkonecnik Oh nice. I'm collecting links to this type of phone, just in case I decide to push the button on limiting the number of super computers I can easily access.

@cjkonecnik Looks really cool, and a well thought out product, but a tad expensive for a feature phone.

@cjkonecnik Looks like a neat phone. I've tried this before with the LightPhone II but it sits in a drawer. I hope you tell us how it goes for you.

@simonwoods I was reminded of Mudita by this listicle. There’s a few other really good looking phones on the list, especially the latest offerings from Nokia. But I’m obsessed with the idea of a colorless, e-ink stone that lives in my pocket.

@maique I agree! 💸 Ultimately what sold me was the future lineup and product philosophy they feature on their site. Mudita seems like a burgeoning company that actually understands what it means to build intentional tech products. My purchase of the Pure is half a new phone and half a tiny investment in a promising new startup.

@jack I’m definitely keeping my SE around just in case. For now I’ve deleted every app off the SE that Apple will let me delete just to get into the habit of reaching for something other than my phone. So far so good. Will continue to update.

@dominikhoecht I totally understand that. I’m thinking I’ll finally get a data plan for my iPad Pro so I still have access to the internet wherever I am, just not always within arm’s reach.

@cjkonecnik It makes sense, when you put it like that. It would be cool to own one but, at the moment, it makes no sense for me 😊 I still have a super cheap feature phone, only use it on the island, and god knows when we’ll be able to get back there.

@cjkonecnik I did something similar and switched to the Light Phone II. Found the most difficult part was to be without iMessage. Group chats become a nightmare.

Good luck though. That phone looks awesome!

@cjkonecnik That looks like a very cool phone! I'm currently drooling over the forthcoming Sky's Edge rotary cell phone, but I'm not sure I'm ready to give up texting.

@Cheri Haha! I’ve seen a working version of a rotary dial smartphone ⬅️(WARNING: FOX NEWS) by space engineer Justine Haupt, but didn’t know that they were going to make one! 😃👍

@brandontreb I was actually just thinking this morning how I’m going to have to explain to people that my phone doesn’t support group chats. Hopefully this means I’ll be included in fewer chats and not inundated with sporadic messages from those same groups.

@Cheri What a cool idea! I’m positive my friends and family would get very tired of placing and receiving phone calls to get a hold of me for little things, but that’d be an awesome toy just for the nostalgia factor. I’m excited to see their finished product in a few months.

@cjkonecnik sounds like a win to me.

@cjkonecnik Ooh, thanks for the link! E-ink certainly feels like a great contender for minimal distraction.

@cjkonecnik this is interesting... I'm close to ordering this myself and I, too, currently have an iPhone SE.

It's the lack of WiFi comms that's been holding me back (I'm currently abroad, and plan to be doing more work/travel), & I hadn't thought I could just takenmy iPhone with me... so simple!

So, thank you. Perhaps this is exactly what I needed to read :)
