How do single parents without a flexible job do it? This week is chock-full of (mostly) mandatory back-to-school stuff. I either have to be present for it, or the drop-off and pick-up times are so close as to make it kind of pointless to do anything but wait nearby. Sometimes I can get a little work done... annie.micro.blog

@Annie I sometimes have the feelingtheae shook institutions are still in a past age. We have a teacher who lives best to pass important info 30 minutes before school starts. Ignoring that some children are in day care during the day.

@Annie I respect single parents more than anyone else. I've no idea how they pull it off.

@Annie My wife and I both work in the arts, which makes both of our schedules unpredictable at the best of times. Fortunately my mother in law lived close by and made herself available to do a lot o the dropping off and babysitting for both our girls. Otherwise we couldn't have done it.

@chrisfoley That's great to have family nearby to help! When still married and the kids were much younger, I worked but only part-time so had the flexibility to do all the things. Definitely would be a challenge with two fully working parents and unpredictable schedules.

@pratik Haha me either 🤷‍♀️🙃 super thankful my kids are older. Watching single parents with very young kids is... wow. I just don't know how.

@V_ Yep, I agree, definitely some old traditions that don't translate well to Now in communication and expectations. Hopefully that will keep modernizing...
