@chipotle re: "no evidence Apple is insisting Tumblr get rid of all" the more recent case is the MeWe app. The social network was forced by Apple to block all publicly visible profile pictures of the nsfw kind before their app was allowed back after being kicked out.
@chipotle as for whether this move will have any effect on tumblr's DAUs, well, I've seen a lot of non-nsfw sites also move off it in recent times - shitposters went to reddit, webcomic makers went to WP or other hosts, content creaters went to twitter and Instagram.
But that's a small selection from my perspective. Totally not representative of it all. Most likely? Tumblr will continue to have millions of DAUs, but that's not what kills services.
I'm sure millions were still using Orkut when they called it quits.
@nitinkhanna I think I underestimated the effect this would have on Tumblr, to be sure, although I don't think Verizon particularly cares if it dies at this point. I don't know if I would consider Tumblr and Instagram fungible, though, except for certain kinds of content. My fandom/artist friends certainly haven't made any moves there!
@chipotle I've seen a lot of x-posters over time, specially panel webcomics that can just post as separate photos in that Instagram slider model. You and I follow different artists!
Can you link me to some of the ones you follow? Would love to know who are the ones who've moved to something other than Insta, and some who haven't moved anywhere but are weathering it on tumblr. :)
