I bought a Magic Keyboard that supports Touch ID today, and now wonder just what I was thinking. They’re great keyboards for what they are, but I’m pretty sure I’ll just keep switching between the two mechanicals I’ve been using.

@chipotle Have you seen the hacks that take the Touch ID unit out of the magic kb? I can’t give up my own keyboards either, but having touch along side would be pretty cool.
@chipotle I’m surprised they didn’t add FaceID to the Studio Display, to be honest. Not only would it allow people to use their keyboard of choice, but it’s night and day better than TouchID from my experience.
@pimoore Since I have a Studio Display, I would certainly have appreciated that. :) Touch ID seems very different depending on device. The last iPhone I had with it and my M1 MacBook Air are great; my Intel MacBook (from work) and my iPad mini are…very spotty.
@chipotle My iPhone 7+ and iPad Air 2 were notorious for the “morphing fingerprint”, where the ID stops working for no reason, but perfectly again after it forces me to input the passcode. And of course sweaty or cold hands were no end of grief. Considering everything that display can do, it seems like a missed opportunity not to have FaceID.
@alans I have, and they're neat, but I don't think I want to destroy a $149 keyboard to try to do that. :)
