@chipotle I enjoyed this article. I’m a coder and sometimes blogger. BBEdit 13 is great even though I don’t use 99% of it. Thinking of upgrading just to support Mac-assed apps.
@canion Thank you! And, I'm sure I don't use all of BBEdit—I just found the "Paste Using Filter" command two weeks ago, and it's apparently been there since BBEdit 12. :)
@chipotle I've been on the TextMate train since it came out (2006?) and love how it works. I've tried BBEdit from time to time, but I've always found it lacking and hard to extend. That said, LSP support might change that.
@chipotle I really enjoyed this piece. How are you setting up your cross posting? Through micro.blog or bridgy?
@duckrowing it's definitely weirder to extend than some other apps. :) You can do a fair amount, but getting in deep sometimes requires AppleScript, which is far from my favorite language.
@chipotle great write up 👌🏻I love BBEdit even though my usage varies a lot. But I always come back to it. As it says on the packaging: It doesn’t suck.
@chipotle Okay so you’ve now taught me something. I didn’t know about that. What BareBones need is a modern YouTube tutorial series.
@chipotle Do you have a Text Filter to paste as Markdown in BBEdit? I lack the skill to make one, and can't find one!
@chipotle I don't suppose you've tried any Rust? Elixir and Rust are what I'm really after and it seems like Nova isn't there yet. I've been leaning on IntelliJ and CLion but I'm not a fan of these.
@canion I don't, although I seem to think I used to at one point. I may have to see if I can get an old Markdown extension package working again. I do a lot with Brett Terpstra's Markdown Service Tools, though.
@duckrowing I haven't tried Rust at all, I'm afraid, so all I can say is BBEdit has a Rust syntax setting. I don't see notes about a Rust language server, though, so it may not have been tested with that. BBEdit doesn't know Elixir out of the box but I'm working on a package for that, which does include a language server.
@chipotle I have Terpstra’s tools installed. I use the heck out of SearchLink. I love that one.
@chipotle I found an elixir language server for BBedit last night. I haven't yet had a chance to try it.
@ezellwrites I have an Elixir package for BBEdit that should be current; there are a few other ones out there which are pretty old. github.com/chipotle/... So far it hasn't been tested on anything but my Macs, though. :)
@canion They're interesting thoughts; It'd be nice to have some "how to (X) with BBEdit" articles out there, at the least. BBEdit is not generally my first choice for prose writing in Markdown, except for documentation where I'm often dealing with hundreds of files across many subdirectories; for blogging and fiction, I'm far more often using Ulysses.
