When you ask me what is the greatest TV show of all-time, the easy response is to say, "The Wire." And I mostly agree with that. But I always add the caveat of "Homicide: Life on the Street" because to me, you don't get "The Wire" without Homicide. You just don't. Anyway, after many years of delays and music license stuff, Homicide is coming to Peacock next month and in HD and 4K! This is fantastic news for all of us who have wanted to show our friends top tier television deadline.com/2024/07/homicide-

@film_girl The first cop show I ever watched where you hardly ever saw someone with a gun - and if you did then it was scary.

@film_girl It’s funny the picture that comes up in the link preview is for the Homicide/Law & Order crossover story arch.

But this is nonetheless exciting!

@film_girl Marked Aug 19 on my calendar 😃
I love this show. IMHO it's far better than The Wire. I'm excited to see it again, but in 4K.

@osullivan I know, I guess the easiest stock photo in Getty or whatever. But it’s also so interesting how the crossover episodes worked because they’d be pure L&O and pure Homicide but seeing the characters move across universes was wild and fun. And ofc allowed Munch to go to SVU easily

@krakalak @lgw4 I’ve had the DVDs and on Plex for decades but not in HD or 4K. And since it was shot on film, this is going to look nice!

@film_girl YES!

Amazing how well it worked given how so different the vibes of each were.

Law & Order felt like a show. Homicide in my mind is a universe that exists in perpetuity and sometimes we had the privilege of having a camera with Frank Pembleton.

@film_girl Did you ever see the PBS documentary "Anatomy of a 'Homicide: Life on the Street'"? @jon_alper was working for WGBH at the time and sent me a copy in VHS.

@film_girl I heard about it for the first time yesterday when I listened to episode 365 of the @incomparable during which it was added to the Television Hall of Fame by @djloehr. I'll take that as a sign

@film_girl the core crew of ‘The Wire’ were a part of ‘Homicide: Life on the Street.’ I day played a little on both shows and was lucky to have all the crew folks as freelance production colleagues throughout my career. I’ve yet to start in on the podcast, co-produced by Susan Ingram, one of the camera assistants on the show. It features interviews with the creators, some of the cast and crew.

@film_girl my pleasure. Next up are my sound colleagues Lorenzo Millan (boom) and Paul Flinton (sound utility). Lorenzo also boomed on ‘The Wire’ and mixed nearly all of ‘House of Cards’

@film_girl @Gte YUP! That show absolutely ruined Police Procedurals for me because I just didn’t believe in Procedurals solve rate! Also big shout out and absolute courage to have an episode where nothing happened. 15 minutes to go I realised and was thinking… they’re going to do this aren’t they?!!?!?!?

@film_girl @Gte and we just canceled Peacock because of the price rise and the utter shitshow that was their self-managed Tour de France coverage this year. You’re welcome.

@film_girl Very happy about this because my DVD set had some glitches with a couple of episodes which have left gaps in my Plex library.

@tgt @film_girl @incomparable I love both shows, but I've always thought of The Wire as a novel where Homicide was more theatrical, as in live theatre. Being a playwright, you can imagine which one I watch more often. But they're both magnificent. (And yes, I'm exicted about the news.)
