14.5, still no way to have Maps display in Light Mode when the iPhone is set to Dark. How hard would it be to have a toggle? Every other map app does that.
Am I missing something?

@maique I just noticed that the Podcasts app on iPad didn’t get the visual changes, but the iPhone version did, so apparently Maps isn’t alone with visual bugs.
@pimoore I’m not even sure it’s a bug, it never allowed us to pick the “theme”. Maps isn’t even that great over here, it lacks a ton of information and has some issues with directions because of it, but I remember to try it every few months to check on improvements. It’s the only time I switch the dark theme off because it’s practically impossible to read during the day time.
@pimoore @dandycat @maique So it looks like the shows on my phone that I compared with Apple’s site are being updated next month with the new subscriptions, so that’s likely why they looked different. But, iPad still has no visual changes to Podcasts. If Apple can’t even bring parity to visual changes in an app, it doesn’t inspire my confidence about WWDC.
@maique Sorry; it was a vague reference to a TV show, which I can’t even remember exactly! 🤦♂️
What I immediately thought about was how difficult it is to avoid feature creep and the potential negative outcome of an endless lists of toggles and settings. And how I also agree that dark mode in Maps is not good enough.
@dandycat As much as I really need a new iPad now, I may hold off to see what happens. If they end up dropping the ball again I’m gonna have to investigate switching back to a Mac, as much as would hate it.
@simonwoods I thought it was an expression I wasn’t familiar with. In the end it turns out I haven’t seen that show either! 🤣
@simonwoods Oh! And I DID watch some of that, after all. Still can’t place the quote, but I did 😊
@maique Not much help, but you can add a toggle in Control Center to quickly switch between light and dark mode.
@cdevroe @simonwoods @maique The West Wing is probably the greatest television show ever made. The pinnacle of the art form.
@gpittman @simonwoods @maique @cdevroe “A million here, a million there, pretty soon, you’re talking real money.”
I’m pretty sure it’s something Leo says at some point early in Season 3 (Ways & Means, or On The Day Before) while they’re dealing with the “death” tax. (I picture him standing in the communication bullpen, talking to Toby, but I could be wrong.)
But it was a saying long before that. A quick search suggests it was misattributed to this guy, who claimed he never actually said it.
@rnv @maique @gpittman @cdevroe “A billion dollars here, a billion dollars there. Sooner or later it starts to add up to real money.” — Josh to Donna, re: budget surplus (about $32 billion apparently LOL)
Gives me a chance to link to one of my favourite websites.
@gpittman @simonwoods @maique I may or may not have watched all seven seasons five times.
@cdevroe Yeah, that’s how I’m doing it. But Maps is very behind here, not too helpful. Lots of errors make it almost impossible to use with confidence. Everyone uses Waze, and no matter how many times I try it, I always end up doing the same.
@cdevroe @simonwoods @gpittman Wow! I leave for a couple of hours and have all this information when I get back!! Thank you all 😊
@pimoore On the plus side, the M1 Macs are pretty nice. But who would want to compromise that hard? Hopefully, the cacophony of people demanding improvements in iPadOS will spur some real improvements from them.
