I’m so excited: I’ve just bought a gorgeous Singer 127 treadle sewing machine (made in 1911!) in an oak cabinet on eBay. It has been in one family since it was new. The machine needs work but I’m determined to get her sewing smoothly again.

@bsag that’s awesome! Maybe photo updates of the rework process are in our future! 😀 🧵

@Burk I hope so! I can’t pick it up for another week, but in the meantime I need to figure out a) if it will fit in my car and b) how I am going to squeeze it into my sewing room. I actually just wanted a treadle cabinet so that I could convert my 201 from electric back to treadle power, but a gorgeous Edwardian machine is a huge bonus and I will do my best to restore her to her former glory.

@bsag @Burk There were 2? early 20th century treadle sewing machines in my grandparents garage when we were cleaning it out. As they were big-ticket items, they went to auction (although I don’t think they fetched anywhere near what they were worth 😕). Such exquisite machines. (My parents also have one which I think was my great grandmother’s, but I’ve never seen it since it is always kept closed.)

@smokey It’s such a shame when they get converted to standard furniture or just used as ornaments. But people have much smaller houses these days and the cabinets are often big and heavy.
