My eldest just asked me how many seconds are in 1000 years.

60 x 60 x 24 x 365.25 x 1000
= 31 557 600 000 seconds.

So, now you know too.

@sarajw -8 (skip leap year every 100 except when divisible by 400)

@sarajw This reminds me of one of the best ways I've come across to grasp the massive difference between a million and a billion:

1 million seconds = ~12 days
1 billion seconds = ~32 years

@RangerRick hah!

Actually I learned recently that seconds are called seconds, because they are the second time division of an hour, the first being minutes. So... Divide by 60? :)

@sarajw @janl There are leap seconds too, but those are discretionary. So it's actually not possible to give a precise answer :-)

But there have been 27 leap seconds in the last 50 years, so averaging out would approximate another 540 seconds.

@sarajw It's counter-intuitive isn't it? 32 years just feels so disproportionately more than 12 days!

@nickautomatic it's only the difference of 1000, but yes! Seems so confusing
