Random thought/realization: Instagram intentionally keeps their only native app(s) on mobile devices -- no tablets, no native "desktop" OS's -- because mobile phones are inherently a more addictive and captive medium.

I *might* actually use an iPad Instagram app if it existed. I refuse to install on my phone because I know how much of a black hole it is.

@jayroh I don’t think you’re wrong. Otherwise, I’m not sure the choice makes sense. I’m sure one reasonably competent iOS engineer could modify the app to be iPad native in less than a week.

@briandigital my thought is - there has *got* to be a very strategic and intentional (and cynical) reason why they don't do this.

It's so obvious and easy a decision that there's only one reason they don't - and that has to do with money and MAU's and all that capitalist bullshit.

@jayroh @briandigital Honestly I don’t think it’s as malicious as you think here, Instagram on a device with a, if not bad, at least inconvenient camera makes for less engaging content.

@threetonesun I think at this point 80% of people are just consuming…

@threetonesun @briandigital agree to disagree. Instagram isn’t a content / photo app anymore. It’s an advertisement delivery app.

@jayroh @briandigital ah. Well if that’s the case why prioritize it if advertisers then need to support larger size / higher resolution screens.
I still don’t think it’s malicious. The market for iPad only users or people who really prefer iPads is not as large as people who like iPads wants to believe.
