@JohnPhilpin That is good.

What strikes me is that there is dissatisfaction with The Establishment from both the Right and the Left throughout many parts of the Western world, not just the US.

@bradenslen about 2 - 2 1/2 years ago I heard a podcast about how left v right is no longer the lens we should be using .. will endeavour to unpack it — maybe a Swedish author?

@bradenslen Found It! Well - not exactly …

Pretty sure it was an Ezra Klein podcast - couldn’t find it - but did find the background.

@JohnPhilpin Those are both good and thanks for searching for them.

IMO both are right in that everything is broken and the old definitons no longer work. The problem is the different sides disagree on who to blame. And it gets more complicated because we have an entrenched two party system and the elites of both parties are to blame.

@bradenslen

I think the two sides issue is the problem - which goes beyond politics.

It is - as Roger had it - the problem of ‘Us and Them’.

The original piece was called ‘Us and Them’, but on Roger’s ‘Us➕Them’ tour - the name subtly changed …

Can’t find an exact quote - but the essence was that ‘➕’ transforms the concept from ‘binary opposition’ to ‘mathematical unity’.

Paraphrasing:

Instead of ‘us versus them’ it becomes ‘us plus them = one humanity’ … a call to action to ‘pool our love’ and recognise we’re all ‘ordinary men’ who should work together.
