I just got the MMR vaccination. I’m too old to have gotten it as part of standard childhood vaccinations and I certainly don’t want to get measles as an adult so I figure it’s cheap insurance.

@vasta It's definitely worth asking your doctor about. The CDC handout from the pharmacy said one can get measles just by entering a room vacated 2 hours previously by someone with measles. It's that contagious.

@vasta Hmmm, I had thought I'd asked my doctor whether I needed a booster… I must ask again. There have been measles breakouts here in NZ recently. I was born well before the 90s.

@vasta Really? I had no idea that as a just-barely-millennial I had to worry about it. Guess it’s time to check with my doc.

@vasta I was born and vaccinated in England sometime before 1963. I imagine it's the same everywhere because of how vaccines work etc. Good reminder to check though. Next year I'll get a shot against shingles (it's free after I turn 65; before that $200).

@vasta I was told to check as well (in France). Since I lost the paper trail for my vaccines, I’ll probably need a bunch of shots anyway :-(

@vasta I talked with my doctor and got my shingles vaccine long before 65 because too many people I know were getting shingles in middle age. Then a couple of years later they came out with a "new and improved" vaccine. Sigh.

@vasta I had shingles in my 20s. Very unpleasant!
