I’m sad to say I’m finding much better search results on Google than DDG. It’s been many years, but I might be heading back…

@toddgrotenhuis @jthingelstad Yeah…I don’t know if I’m ready to drop $120/year on search. (I search a lot.) I get the draw, but it seems search with ads and no creepy tracking is a fine business model if Google didn’t monopolize things. Rage, rage against the dying of the light, etc. 🤣

@bjhess I feel the same about it honestly. I used Kagi for a while even and it was a little better than DDG but Google still has the most relevant results, as much as I hate to admit it

@bjhess @toddgrotenhuis @jthingelstad Wouldn’t «searching a lot» make paying $108 (which is the yearly price) more worth it? Kagi might be my favourite tech service, so I obviously think so, heh.

I absolutely had the same experience with DDG as you — but with Kagi I get (compared to Google) better result, no ads, and more powerful features, like search bangs and personal site rankings (begone Pinterest!).

And as a bonus it’s «not Google». 🙂

@bjhess I find Startpage is a good frontend for Google search (if the cruft is what put you off in the first place…). Easy enough to set up in Firefox, Vivaldi etc.
