@bjhess I’m a bit more than halfway through Peace Like a River. I really like it although maybe not quite as much as I liked I Cheerfully Refuse. It feels a bit slower. I was getting a bit impatient through Davy’s trial and Jeremiah‘s illness, excited for the family to finally hit the road.
It’s totally possible my opinion will evolve after I finish the second half though. It seems like the pace has already started picking up.
There is something special about I Cheerfully Refuse that really captured my imagination. I will frequently find myself daydreaming about life aboard Rainy’s boat.
I really appreciate you introducing me to Leif Enger!

That’s great that I Cheerfully Refuse is sticking with you! Peace Like a River is definitely a slow burn. I really enjoyed Virgil Wander as well, but it’s kind of pointed right at me since I grew up in a small Minnesota town where my parents owned the local two-screen movie theater.
