Evernote’s Next Move: Joining the Bending Spoons Suite of Apps

Whelp. This might be the thing that makes me leave Evernote. Not sure yet, though. I’ll have to see how the acquisition turns out and what, exactly, Bending Spoons, is going to do with Evernote.

@joelhamill I've never heard of Bending Spoons - not that big of a thing - but their portfolio of apps doesn't align with Evernote and they have a manifesto page on their website which just screams, to me at least, wrong for an actual company.

@joelhamill i too had never heard of the 'spoons company' - clearly it was Evernote's only route.

@JohnPhilpin Clearly, getting acquired by a company that makes AI editing tools makes complete and total sense for a, checks notes, note taking company.

@joelhamill @JohnPhilpin Yeah, how weird. I've had a process of scanning documents (bills, manuals) into Evernote for years, initially because of a useful PDF search. Now I'm just paying them yearly to maintain that legacy data pile. It's a big lift to bring it either to Obsidian or my file system. Even before this I would kind of like to get it done, though.

@bjhess @JohnPhilpin I'll probably give Notion another look. I know they had an Evernote import tool at one point.

@JohnPhilpin possibly. I'll probably stay with Evernote until the acquisition goes through to see what the new owners do with it. But, I'll explore my options so I'm prepared if I do decide to move.

I've never experienced the issues people have had with Evernote. I was able to ignore the work group stuff they added and their sync has always been rock solid in my use. Hopefully nothing will change with the new owners.

@joelhamill Yeah, sync has always worked well for me, though I’ve found mobile a bit tedious. Going a pure file system way might be challenging. Even if placing things in iCloud/Files, the iCloud sync is not known to be rock solid. And iOS Files doesn’t appear to have PDF search.
