but when I looked in the opposite direction, into space, there was no mystery, no majestic awe to behold . . . all I saw was death. … My trip to space was supposed to be a celebration; instead, it felt like a funeral.

William Shatner felt the overview effect. Via waxy.org.

@sod Thanks for sharing that! Stark truth and yet it serves as the foundation of the the beauty of our fragile, ephemeral existence in the Universe. I've come to dwell on the truth that the Universe does't care. Earth and the life on it are both significant and insignifant. And the same for any other life on any other planet.

As I type this I've got my windows open listening to some deep thunder and the trees are changing. It's just beautiful for this human animal. This existence on this planet. And at night I can look out at those stars and try to grasp the empty spaces, the distances, punctuated by stars, planets, galaxies.

We truly are tiny but I find comfort in it.

@sod Excellent. I've always liked Shatner. Your post makes me wish there was a "repost" option in micro.blog. I'd love to repost such things to my micro.

@Denny I'm with you. Just existing (and being conscious) on this planet is pretty great. 😊

@bjhess If you're comfortable with scripting or making shortcuts (on the Apple platforms), a simple repost functionality should be relatively simple to implement. There's basic support for reposts in Micro.blog.

@sod Thank you for sharing this one. Missed it, but a comment made me aware of your post. Loved reading it, got a “knot on my throat” (not sure how this one translates).
