Yesterday, I published “The different kinds of notes”

Which would be the post where I outline my general theory of notetaking, based on the research I’ve been doing, for all to disagree with 🙂

@baldur Thanks for this, it was a really good read. I’ve not thought about how I take notes, but I guess I’m a a mapper, mainly, although I do just write notes for my website as a precursor of more fully formed posts.

Made me also conclude a map’s a form of control – not just of one’s thoughts and ideas, but of how others should also see things.

Also thought about my lack of a system of how I take them. A mixture of pen and paper (mainly headings, bullets and indentation), Apple Notes, Simplenote and plain text Markdown. Depends on what’s to hand, where I am, how I’m feeling etc.

I’ve never thought I should systematise or plan this (probably because I’m in no sense a proper “writer”), but I’ve been researching stuff for a job I’m about to start. Perhaps I should.

@leonp Thanks, hope it was helpful. I’m a big believer in people incrementally improving their existing methods. Turn bits of it into a routine. Slowly becoming more consistent. That sort of thing.
