I have just gone back and added On The Map to all my past week’s 📚#mbmay entries.

At a stroke provides a cool visual reference for any author - and the similar authors that might be in that same orbit.

Eg : John Fowles

@JohnPhilpin That’s fun. I wonder where the map is getting its data from? I just tried various names. The one that gave the most interesting results so far was “Alan Glynn”.

@artkavanagh yes that detail I didn’t explore - just a mental summary of the names - concluding .. seems right. And it’s not just the names - there must be some kind of axes as well.

@JohnPhilpin It seems that the maps are based on what a self-selecting sample (of indeterminate size) of readers tell him they like. I’m not saying that that makes the map worthless — on the contrary, my first impression is that it might be a lot more useful than Google, Goodreads or Amazon when it comes to plotting resemblances between authors and finding new ones you might like. And it looks cool. I’m definitely going to bookmark it.
