@JoeHoffman You mean Middleton himself, or one of the characters? (The character who speaks that line is a woman, the twice-widowed Livia.) If Middleton, that’s not how I see him, though I’d have trouble explaining why. He’s hard to pin down, and has been perceived in a variety of guises, including that of Puritan, unlikely as it might seem that a Puritan would be so actively involved in the theatre.
