Referring to Elon Musk as “Space Karen” only makes me think you’re no better than an ignorant child, playing pretend at having opinions about serious issues.

He’s not a fucking dark wizard and this isn’t some shitty piece of fiction.

Say his name next to his actions.

@SimonWoods Right on! It also hooks into subtle sexism — somehow managing to blame females for actions that don't belong to them at all.

@SimonWoods I use "Space Karen" when I'm a group of friends who know the context and the reason why I'm using the term. Same goes for Bolsonaro, which we call "Bozo". Not an ignorant child, just a stupid name to talk about their stupid actions.

But when talking to a broader audience, I agree, we should say their names, and call things by their correct names. The Capitol riot was Domestic Terrorism, and so were the attacks to the Brazilian Democracy by Bolsonaro followers earlier this month.

I'll pay more attention when using these names online. Their names and their actions should be preserved so we don't have to explain context for those unfamiliar with the topics.

@otaviocc @Miraz Agreed. I’ve been finding that the label “Space Karen” makes me uncomfortable; the sexism and antifeminist implications are probably why.

@artkavanagh @otaviocc @Miraz Also, I know and like a few people named Karen.

When Mitch McConnell was stirring up a lot of anger on the left, my progressive friends would go off on rants about effing Mitch, and I’d be all, “What’d I do?!” for a second.
