@rom No, I'm not really squabbling over naming the thing, nor even where we are on the hype scale (though these are all issues). I'm concerned with the fact that all these, even as bad as some of them are, serve as distraction from what will happen to the planet while we argue over it and wait for the plateau.

@anniegreens @rom Agreed. The climate impact is almost never mentioned in the tech press and on the rare occasion that it is it's brief and with little actual discussion.

@Denny @anniegreens @rom I found this piece by Kate Crawford in Nature earlier this year both interesting and concerning. In contrast, the tech press is doing a terrible job here.
