@manton This sounds interesting. So theoretically, I should be able to make the mastodon timeline a parallel Micro.blog timeline, if I subscribe to the folks from there. This is an attempt in that direction.
@amit continuing this bifurcated conversation from micro.blog - and will then take a look on Mastodon.
@johnphilpin is stuck. Isn’t he always!
I have read the @manton post 3 times … and still worry about breaking something. Is it right that I can reset my ‘given’ microblog mastodon user name and replace it with my my real mastodon user name?
That is in the example here...
... I can reset and delete @johnphilpin and replace that with fractals@mastodon.social... Which is my “real” name?
I am resistant to just doing it since the doc is clear that when I reset … everything under that account on mastodon is removed … which is ok .. if I get to kill the microblog name amd use what I want.
Alternatively maybe the ‘alias’ option on Mastodon is what I should using ?
Maybe there’s another way to look at this …
My fractals handle is a vestige of me a long time ago.
I like the idea of my mastodon name reflecting my domain name.
Job 1 … rename @johnphilpin to @me@johnphilpin.com
Thanks to Manton’s new release … anything posted on microblog is automatically routed to that space on mastodon .. and any responses on mastodon gets routed back to john.philpin … all good.
Job 2 … using the Mastodon aliasing thang … move followers/following over on the ‘fractal’ Mastodon account to the new @me space … #ThinkingAloud
@JohnPhilpin To clarify this, you can't set Micro.blog to use your mastodon.social name. Those will always be separate. Micro.blog can only have usernames with micro.blog or your own domain name. If you're happy with how you're using Mastodon, no need to change it.
@manton Thankyou … that is good to know … one final question … if I change My micro.blog handle from
@JohnPhilpin to (say)
Will that work?
