@amit they probably already have a browser based “print” on you 😔 and I strongly recommend getting rid of all social media accounts that you can

@hjertnes Yeah, Privacy angle is just an added benefit. Am not shooting for that -- good if it helps, fine otherwise too. And have already gotten rid of Facebook, Instagram etc. Only Twitter and micro.blog remains.

My logout routine is applicable to every site that serves feed of some kind. Including email, feed readers, instant messaging platforms etc.

@amit I still have my old twitter account, but I removed all tweets and unfollowed everyone. But I never use it. Twitter became unsubable after Micro.blog

@amit I'm not that paranoid about it, but I do know some about how things are tracked, and try to make their life as hard as possible.

What I do is to block as many trackers as possible, and a lot of site either through 1blocker on iOS or /etc/hosts on my laptops. It isn't just social media but also sites that I don't want to go to but sometimes do out of old habit.

@hjertnes Yeah, I too am taking efforts to shield myself and my data from tracking as much as possible. However, I have come to realize it is a lost battle. There is no point letting this continuously burden you. I use Firefox with strict tracking protection on. Nothing more.

I am more interested in saving my time that I spent mindlessly on these sites.

@amit I’m up for a loosing battle. I agree, but I know the kind of metrics they probably follow, and I don’t think it will take a lot of account deletions before it starts to be a lot of red in a bunch of spreadsheets

@hjertnes Yep. I am no way suggesting you give up on the privacy battle. I have just stopped let it bother me anymore. I make some concious choices that I believe should help the cause.

On time front though, I have become even more aggressive in deciding how much do I let go. Too much of no digital service is acceptable.

@amit @hjertnes Agree with what the both of you said here. As for whether these massive platforms can change, well, it's quite telling that they've become more interested in trying features that those of us on Micro.blog have already been enjoying such as removing metrics. At this point I use Twitter purely as a broadcasting tool, much like I would use any other publishing platform.
