@amerpie The "I will protect you" and "You are safe here" bits feel presumptuous to me. He can strive to provide a safe environment, and he should. He can have a zero tolerance policy for certain kinds of speech and behavior. But promising protection and safety is grandiose, hubristic. We're talking about the open web and an open protocol, after all.

@markstoneman Fair point, but I think marginalized people would rather see a declaration like that over the inclusion of a pride icon three clicks deep into a website when it comes to promoting inclusion and support.

@amerpie @markstoneman He could quite easily put a personal spin on it (without promising more than he can deliver) by saying something like: "I will work hard to make sure it's a safe place – and please let me know if I can do more." (But I'm not claiming that Manton's heart isn't in the right place.)
