I enjoyed reading this post by Apple Annie, a reflection on how she uses Mastodon and her difficulties with Micro.blog: A Community of Concerns. "Micro.blog’s community approach is still a struggle for me. As I built my little communities across Mastodon instances I relied on the Local timelines of many instances to get a feel for their users and core conversations." @Denny I like that Micro.blog doesn't have a metric indicating who the cool kids are. Putting in a counter for likes and followers would be exactly that. It would be nice to get a private notification of Mastodon links even if attention hungry people would screenshot and share the hell out of it. My solution was combining my primary Mastodon account with my Micro.blog account, an option open to everyone. The downside to that is that my Micro.blog timeline is no longer specific to Micro.blog. It shows everyone I follow on Mastodon.

@amerpie I'd just like a private notification. Otherwise there is attempted communication that is cut off. I get the point about not showing them publicly. But it just seems somehow rude that Mastodon users that might follow accounts here will never know that their attempts to show appreciation on a post are never seen.

The micro.blog timeline is just an intentionally limited and dumbed down version of what I get on Mastodon so I'm not going to make extra effort to use it anymore. It'll be easier for me now to just use social.coop and phase out interactions here. I'll still check and reply as needed but I'm not going to initiate discussion from here anymore.

You have and seem to use a social.lol account... are you doing that from the micro.blog account? How does that relate to your micro.blog account?

@Denny I tied my micro.blog account to my social.lol account. See the screenshot and URL - Micro.blog Mastodon settings
