@alexsavin I've stopped thinking about buying more typewriters... except for the Selectric, which I want badly.

@jack I remember when had the rare opportunity to do my homework on my Dad’s Selectric.

@jack Selectric is very cool but apparently rare in working condition today and super difficult to maintain

@alexsavin I just found a Selectric II for $20, but it was “in need of repairs”. I really don’t have the time for that, neither do I have the space. @jack

@alexsavin @odd Difficulty of repair long-term is one reason I've resisted. Also, they're gigantic.

@alexsavin I'm surprised that they're hard to get: in the 1980s I worked in a large corporation where every typewriter, as far as I could tell, was a Selectric. I guess they don't age well. This being IBM, there was of course a corporate maintenance contract.

@jack I had a mint condition Selectric II that I finally let go of years ago. I kind of regret selling it. But it was SO huge and heavy. It vibrated like a tank when turned on. Every keystroke went BANG! 💥

@Cheri The typeball technology must have been amazing. I don't think any chips/computers were involved. A big plus, if you were used to standard typewriters, was that you could switch to italics, boldface, or a different font just by swapping typeballs.
