Beautiful timepiece arrived, no Apple Watch for me. Solar powered for the win.
@pimoore Have you been wearing normal watches for some time or is this the start of something new?
@jaheppler Thanks Jason, the moment I opened the box it was perfect.
@skoobz I haven’t worn any watch for ages, actually. While I debated about getting an Apple Watch a few times, my heart was always set on another classic analog model. I want to (re)embrace more analogue in my life, so I guess you could say it is the start of something. :)
@pimoore So nice! I still use my Apple watch most of the time, but I have a solar-powered Citizen that I've had for years and I love that I never have to plug it in.
@hollie I had looked at the Citizen Eco-drive line as well, but the styles didn’t appeal to me as much. Another excellent brand though, and still affordable.
@Pilchuck Nice! It seems solar and mechanical are the two most popular movements these days. Which two do you wear?
@pimoore Gorgious. I wear a Seiko Presage to work most days, and I have a Victorinox on a canvas strap that was the first “grown up” watch I bought way back in 2008 that is my weekender. And I have an old, but trusty, G-Shock for mucking around. This looks lovely. Which model is it?
@lukemperez Didn’t realize Victorinox was Swiss Army brand, those are stunning. Mine is the Expedition North Field, 41mm case.
@pimoore it's beautiful. I have a nice solar watch that I wear every now and then. And a fancy watch I was gifted by Hewlett-Packard when I worked there (which I'm afraid to wear).
I have the latest Apple Watch model, but the notifications are too distracting, and a smartwatch without notifications is the same as using a bazooka to kill an ant.
@pimoore This is a topic I've had bouncing around in my head a bit. What needs to be digital and what doesn't. My girlfriend recently found some socks that had the labels of cassette tapes of heavy metal albums on them. It made me think about how much I liked collecting physical albums, digging through the liner notes, and seeing all the artwork. You miss much of that with a digital music subscription. This is just one example.
@pimoore Looks great! I’m on/off with the Apple Watch and use it only if I’m doing something very active or need to pay something, else I use my solar powered Citizen Eco-Drive.
@skoobz I think about that topic a lot and replaced many of my digital things with quieter versions that don't distract me with notifications or cause me "But is it charged?!" anxiety. If you miss digging through your albums, there is also a hybrid solution where you rip your music to your computer and flip through the liner notes in a box or big binder. Those old CD binders are still manufactured.
@JMaxB Non-algorithmic technology is a far more accurate name for what I was trying to describe.
@rishabh Seems like a good idea. I’m surprised watches aren’t on the community emoji list yet.
@rishabh It’s only in the user suggested list, not the official tagmoji list, if I’m right. @burk
@rishabh Sorry for the confusion, yep, that’s correct @odd. I am just collecting feedback in a central location from the community on potential future Tagmoji to be considered by Micro.blog ( @manton & @jean ) to incorporate into the platform. I don’t have direct say into what happens with Micro.blog. I’m just a regular user trying to provide info/help where possible for the community. 😀
