Hey micro.blog friends, I’m curious how you read your feed? Do you use the Timeline on the website, or do you use the app, or….? : hollie.micro.blog
Hey micro.blog friends, I’m curious how you read your feed? Do you use the Timeline on the website, or do you use the app, or….? : hollie.micro.blog
@hollie I’m a little bit of a narcissist, so I read it on my site and double check the rss feed occasionally in net newswire.
Thanks for calling me a friend!
@hollie I pretty much use the timeline. I do subscribe to my own feed, usually to see how it looks in Feedbin/NetNewsWire, but also to re-read it (good way to spot spelling/gramma mistakes).
@hollie During the day I read on the web via Safari. In the morning when I need to catch up I read via NetNewsWire, my RSS reader of choice.
@numericcitizen @miraz @aeryn @mandaris @spgreenalgh @lmika @mroutley Thanks, everyone! :) A lot of you mentioned an RSS feed. One person mentioned subscribing via RSS to their own blog so they can spot any edits they may want to make (I do this too). But a lot of folks are referring to RSS as if they can read everyone they follow in a single RSS feed - am I reading that right, is that possible? As in, I know I can take @miraz ’s blog and put her single RSS feed into my RSS reader, but is it possible to take my main feed of EVERYONE I follow and subscribe to that in an RSS reader?
I’d really like to be more active here and chat with more folks, but I follow quite a few people and I’m having difficulty with finding a way to sort of process the Timeline in an efficient way. If I could RSS subscribe to my Timeline, it’d help a lot!
@hollie yes your follow feed is at micro.blog/feeds/hol… - it’s a single feed of everyone you follow :)
But when you click through you will go to the source URL of the hosted site rather than the micro.blog timeline. Reeder overcomes this somehow so I can be redirected into the official app to interact
More feeds here help.micro.blog/t/feeds/9…
@hollie I’m still testing to figure out how to discover friends and consume content. Rights now I’m just liking at the discover page in the app.
@hollie Vast majority of time the micro.blog app on iOS. Although when I have more time and want to comment and engage more I find the web better.
@hollie I use the iOS app, mostly. The Mac desktop app comes in second. I almost never use the browser.
@hollie usually on the iPhone app, sometimes on the iPad app and occasionally on the web.
@aeryn Where do you click in Reeder to get redirected to the official app? I’ve added the timeline feed to my new Reeder but I’ve just got a button called “Reader View” and nowhere to click.
Did you sign in to your account at micro.blog as well?
@snuggle I have to tap hold on an item and select Open. Or swipe left. It redirects to the mb app. Doesn’t always work smoothly though and I have to do it again. Also check your settings for the default apps to open into. You don’t have to sign in in Reeder. Only if you want your full feed. You can follow individuals and it still works.
I think that’s right. I find Reeder a little odd but very useful.
@aeryn Ahah, this works! I had to set ‘micro.blog’ app as a default app within the settings. Thank you so much 😊
@hollie, I used the Timeline on the website, but with the recent additions to the Mac app, I like it more and more and think I might switch. Also worth noting: I also have an RSS feed on top of my RSS reader on my phone for people I follow closely.
@jtr Thanks, I’m going to check out the Mac app! I downloaded it a long time ago and used it a little but I think there bugs (but it was ages, so I’m sure it’s gotten better).
@hollie I’ll be curious to hear how it goes…! Right now (for example), I got a notification from my iPhone on my Mac’s screen (I have notifications synced), so I went ahead and opened the Micro.blog App on the Mac to check my Mentions, and here I am writing this.
There’s another benefit for me: since I use Grammarly, the integration is better than on the browser. The preview window (to show how this reply would look like) is updated live as I type this, which is another nice touch.
If you end up blogging your thoughts about this please let me know! 😊
@hollie Reeder.
I also occasionally check Discover, but not very often, as it is mostly pictures instead of blogging.
@jtr Interesting! Thanks for the feedback! A lot of folks seem to enjoy using the app. I will definitely blog about it when I figure it out! :)
