@AlanRalph I wouldn't go quite that far - I think they're myopic, in the sense that they're very good at the things they think are important, like signalling to part of the electorate that they're "on their side”, and that they value loyalty to the cause over, say, competence or fiscal discipline. But that causes them to miss some serious issues.
