@sketchbookb I think I recall @danielpunkass mentioning that he (or potential-MarsEdit-using Squarespace members) have been bugging Squarespace for years about an API :-( It does seem sad that as a website-building (and hosting) platform, they’re acting more like a silo than a part of the open web.
I’ve added your integration article to the wiki, too (it’s a bit of a catch-all page, but at least your article is there now!)—thanks for mentioning it.
@smokey @sketchbookb Squarespace used to have an API - and shut it down. @danielpunkass had to remove support in MarsEdit:
We've seen whole blogging systems that used to support blogging APIs drop them, like Squarespace.
I wouldn’t hold out hope for them ever restoring it.
@simonwoods No. They have their own admin API which launched earlier in the year - you can post to Ghost from various things like Ulysses and IAWriter, but micropub support is not there. There was a group on the forum discussing issues like ActivityPub though. So there’s clear interest in trying to get Indieweb support into Ghost.
It’s not a priority for the (small) core team, but I’m hopeful pen source contains will pick up the slack.
@adders I’ve been a Squarespace user long enough, that I remember the old API. As I mention in the post, I don’t expect them to add it back, but I do think it’s in their best interest to be aligned with the larger ecosystem.
@adders I've also given up hope unless there's a major shift in public demand for open APIs.
@adders Yeah that's what I was remembering. Manton's post covered my own basic thought.
Customising your API in this way is a good way to take the silo road, no matter what official announcements their team might make. It's in the early days when there's a greater chance these platforms will be held to good standards but only if we bother to do that.
