The last post for Post News: a potential Twitter successor that tried to cosy up to the news industry is shutting down.

The field is thinning… I suspect it’ll come down to X, Threads & Mastodon, and Bluesky.

But can Bluesky find its audience in that context, or is the future all ActivityPub?

@adders X continues to decay and I'm not sure if they can recover or even want to recover. Bluesky looks like a worthy replacement for X, in re. features and UI. Especially for people who find Mastodon confusing (although I quite like Masto.)

@bradenslen Bluesky is certainly the most like Twitter in the way it operates. I'm finding it surprising hard to warm to, though. There's a slightly self-righteous feel to the place that I don't enjoy. But maybe I've just made bad choices about whom I follow.

@adders Agreed on Bluesky and self righteousness and I'm having the same trouble warming to it. But to be fair, there is a certain strain of self-righteousness on all the socnets that have had an influx of refugees from X. I guess I'll lurk some more there and maybe cross-post to there.
