@adders I heard on a podcast that epidemiology is basically 20 years old, at least as far as being a recognised, substantial aspect of scientific endeavour, backed by substantial resources and all.

@simonwoods Yeah, it’s basically about mathematical modelling of spread. It has very little to say about the behaviour of viruses (virology) or the reaction of the human system (immunology). Their work informs epidemiology, and the better the work, the better the epidemiology. But making epidemiology the centre and only source of truth is rather narrow.

@adders Yep. It seems to be one of those examples of “emotional vs intellectual” behaviour; we of course understand that singularity is often bad but it feels so good to embrace a singular solution to any problem.
