When talking about making things (literally anything) face-to-face, the first person to say to me “just do this to make it work” will get a stare that will make them uncomfortable.

just is a shitty word in this context. Don’t fucking use it.

@simonwoods Hmmm, what exactly is the context? When there's a hard deadline (like opening night), I find a lot of value in Tim Gunn's maxim: "Make it work." :)

Not saying you're wrong; more that I'm a little confused.

@Bruce "make it work" = "include this thing that doesn't exist"

It's unfortunately common in software development but I've seen it elsewhere.

For example: "Bruce just build a whole new fixture, like at that other theatre." (please forgive the crude attempt to use the language of your profession!)

@simonwoods Ah, that makes sense.

(Though I did once walk into a theater whose inventory was nothing like the specs* they sent; I had to redesign the entire plot and throw together a rental in about six hours. The show must go on! 🤪🎭)

* The equivalent might be the specs saying they had a lab full of iMac Pros when they really had a single 2010 Mac Mini.
