Experts sharing their knowledge freely on the big social silos over years has now created a sense of loss for many people.
Hopefully the lesson learned is not to recreate those silos elsewhere but to share that knowledge in a variety of ways and invest in a diversified web.
This has been my issue with Twitter and Facebook and even Tumblr for years; I see people now who struggle with what I think of as basic web skills such as searching the web or navigating a website and I'm beginning to think it's because everybody got too familiar with just prodding the silo for answers.
It's not just platforms; we as people on the web need to rediscover our independence in the most vital of ways.
