I, being of a mature and reasonable disposition have decided to take one of two contrasting paths when it comes to my handheld computer:

• Get a “feature phone” and keep the iPhone around for emergencies only.
• OR get the big iPhone and use it for as many years as possible.

The big iPhone definitely makes for the best camera set-up (bigger screen, etc), that’s for sure but the thing that also makes it attractive: battery.

The size could be considered a problem but I see it as an advantage; yes, it’s more difficult to hold for as long but I have zero interest in constantly using my handheld computer. What some people consider a bad deterrent, I think of as a good discouragement.

@SimonWoods I’d put money on you hating a feature phone after a week. I did. I found it to be a bigger nuisance than a smartphone. Related: I have a Light Phone II I’ll sell you for the price of shipping. :)

@jack I appreciate the offer! I’m afraid I’ll have to refuse, though, since I can’t imagine the e-ink screen would be anything other than a source of frustration.

I feel you’re probably right. Right now the smartphone, even as a low-use and emergency device fits well with my average day in a way that the feature phone would probably just cause problems.

I’ve previously done a bit of research into carrier compatibility and even that was enough to make me doubt the idea. That included support from Punkt. and it was, uh, lacking. Then I just think about the convenience of multiple Apple stores all within relatively easy reach and yeah… I think I’ll just wait for the feature phones to get better and for my life to change in such a way that the smartphone is not so valuable.
