The iPad, HomePod, and Apple TV need multi-user support.

… umm because those devices are often used by more than one person?

The one surprise of the article? That it took an entire article to say what could be said in a sentence.

@JohnPhilpin This is what happens when nobody pays for news and curated opinion.

@simonwoods news is a commodity ... the price of which should be free. Opinion / Analysis of what that news means is where the value is ... and should be charged for.

Dan M sits in the ‘I wouldn’t bother paying for his opinion / analysis’ bucket.

@JohnPhilpin Gathering the news takes time and hard work. It's expensive. Opinions are in plentiful supply and easy to produce. Analysis, when it's done seriously and conscientiously, is more difficult and more valuable than mere opinion but it's not always easy to tell the difference. Not only is news more costly than opinion, it's also more valuable. because people are well capable of forming their own opinions, particularly if they have solid, reliable information to base them on. (Just my opinion.)

@artkavanagh it depends on where you draw the line on news .... I see it as ‘just the facts’ ... now employing people to drag out those facts ... let’s call it ‘investigative journalism’ ... that is worth paying for .. depending on what they are investigating ..I wouldn’t pay for investigating things I have no interest in, but there are others that would.

As for opinion and analysis ... I agree ... lots and lots of it around ... but how much would you pay for?

Maybe a longer discussion is needed. Do you know of the smiling curve?

@JohnPhilpin I wasn’t familiar with the smiling curve but I just searched for it. It seems to make sense. There’s a lot of stuff that I wouldn’t pay for but which I recognize has value and is (objectively speaking) worthwhile. Data journalism, for example. Not everybody is going to want everything that’s worth paying for.

@artkavanagh @JohnPhilpin I didn't make myself clear enough; I meant rigorous opinion, i.e. analysis and the like.

I'd rather we pay less for shiny and fragile gadgets and more for the things people aren't trying to con us for; seriously, if somebody wants to say "yeah my laptop is definitely worth thousands up front and god only knows how much over time" but this information and knowledge that is literally crucial to our society isn't even worth $5 a month? Fuck me, no wonder the scumbags gain power so easily.
