Mara, age 12, arriving home from school yesterday: “I am so glad to be home. I can’t wait to draw. I didn’t draw ALL weekend. I can’t stand it anymore. I’m going to draw now.”
Note to self: when you find something you love, just straight-up obsess over it. Balance is stupid.
@Annie This approach combined with an effort to understand that changing your focus to a different passion, and that it is both OK and advisable to pursue multiple passions can lead to a more robust set of skills for, well, everything.
@simonwoods YES. I find the idea of having a SINGLE GOVERNING PASSION for your entire life laughable and terrible. We are explorers. Some things are constants in my life (writing, for example) but the constants benefit from the exploring and deep dives I do in other areas.
