Time to move off Google Photos I guess (#photography #googlephotos)

@numericcitizen I’ve been paying for Google Photos so don’t plan to move anytime soon. But the biggest downside for iCloud Photos is the lack of family photo libraries. That’s literally the only reason I use Google Photos at all.
@mdrockwell Fully agree here. Another item to put on the WWDC wish list. The owner of the iTunes family could setup a family library and ask family members to join.
@numericcitizen I would love to move away from Google Photos. Even if Apple offered some sort of hack where could login to a different Apple ID specifically for Photos. Then my wife and I could setup an account specifically for that which we share.
@numericcitizen I’m probably missing the point but our family has a shared library (Apple Photos) that we all post to and that works well for us.
@phildearson You’re right… one use can create an album with other who can post photos in it. Now I’m wondering what’s missing for @rockwell to be happy…
@numericcitizen @phildearson @mdrockwell the problem comes when your wife has an Android phone. What to do then?
@numericcitizen @phildearson I want everything to be automatic. I don’t want us to need to take the extra step of sharing photos in an album. If I make up a calendar or photo book to print, I just want everything in the given time period or of a specific person to be available in a single library. We use Google’s partner sharing feature for that now.
@numericcitizen @phildearson @mdrockwell Shared albums have limits on the number of photos they can contain, the quality of the images get reduced and have a maximum video length. Also the sharing is not automatic. A solid family shared folder is a glaring missing feature of Photos.
@mdrockwell when you take a picture, how does Google Photos knows about where it should go, in your private library or the family library ?
@numericcitizen we have it setup to share all photos, but you can also set it up to only share photos that contain specific people.
