Once in a while I get it in my head that I want to knit socks. (On a scale of 1 to 10, I am a 2 as a sock knitter. I just don’t enjoy it. Second Sock Syndrome? I practically invented it.) @Rori They look great! I’m toying with the idea of learning to knit myself. We were supposed to learn it at school, but I had extreme difficulty learning/liking it. But now I am practically “Mr. Woollen Sock III”, and don’t use anything else, so I gather I’d be better off learning to knit my own socks. 🧶

@odd Thank you! I hope you get to try knitting them. Nothing is as satisfying as making your own clothes to wear. I didn't learn how to knit until I was in my 40s 😂

@Rori My wife has numerous books on knitting socks, including at least one where both socks are knitted simultaneously—which both makes it easier to make sure the socks match AND eliminates Second Sock Syndrome.

@Rori You should try a circular sock machine! It’s not quite as easy as it looks, but you can make beautiful socks if you learn how!

@philipbrewer I've tried so many methods. I have an arsenal of sock knitting needles. I even have a friend who is an avid sock knitter to inspire me. I just don't enjoy making them. I'd rather be knitting myself shirts and pullovers. I bet you never run out of knitted socks to wear 😊

@Alligator thanks for the recommendation. I've heard only good things about the machine. I just don't like knitting socks so the few that I make are very precious to me.

@Rori Jackie has lots of books, but she also doesn't really enjoy knitting them. I have one pair of very warm socks that I mostly wear for napping, knit from a lovely green lopi yarn. Jackie mostly buys her own hand-knit socks at the show and sale of her local spinning and weaving guild.

@philipbrewer I also knitted a two pairs for my husband who only ever wears them to sleep. I'm "relieved" he doesn't ask for more, haha.

@philipbrewer BTW, being married to a knitter acquaints you with a few knitting terms. I'm not surprised you know of the Second Sock (Sleeve) syndrome. My husband says things like, "That sweater is gonna look good after it's been blocked." "Did you make a swatch?" At times I wonder if I should just sit him down and teach him how to knit.

@Rori I did spend about an hour trying to learn how to knit, but I kept splitting the yarn, so the swatch I was making grew a stitch wider every row or so. I gave up pretty quickly.

@philipbrewer Oh, I hope you will give it another try. Who knows, your second or third time might be the charm.

@Rori At this point I think I'm more likely to take up spinning (which I have done with some success, although I've never made more than a few inches of yarn). My wife used to do a lot of spinning, although of late she's largely switched to tapestry weaving.
