Tell me if you have heard this one before. The Green Bay Packers are going to San Francisco to play the 49ers in the NFC championship game and the right to go to the Super Bowl.

@frankm Only one other time, at the end of the 1997 season. The Niners lost to the Packers and then the Packers went on to lose to the Elway Broncos in the Superbowl.

@Ron That's what I was referring to, it was the path to Brett Farve's second Super Bowl, I an hoping for a repeat for Aaaron Rogers. A bit ironic that it would be the same opponent, same city, different arena, players and coaches.

@frankm Yes, Jerry Rice made the point that the new stadium makes this a completely new era for the Niners. I think that's a fair point. The Niners had such domination during the Montana/Rice/Walsh era that it stands apart from other times. The Packers beat the Niners before that had even started. I'm looking forward to the game in this new era.

I actually attended the very first NFC championship game ever, at Kezar Stadium in 1970. Drove up on my motorcycle, parked right there near the front gate, paid $10 to a scalper for a very nice bleacher seat and suffered greatly when the young Dallas QB, Roger Staubach, came from behind to beat Brodie in the 4th quarter.
