I wonder if this is entirely accurate, @ron? 🤔

Not entirely, but it's not too bad. It was compiled by a BBC entertainment news reporter and there are certainly many people in the UK who are pretty expert on the subject of Bob. I will comment on some points where I disagree with what he wrote.

I'll start with his introduction, in which he mentions a famous documentary, which he misquotes as being "Don't Look Back". You can win a bar bet with this one. The film and posters about this film never had an apostrophe in the title. I've never read the story about how this came about, but it certainly is the case that the first word in the title has always been Dont, NOT Don't.

23 - "Dylan then settled on his now famous moniker - a nod to the Welsh poet Dylan Thomas."

This sounds very appropriate, but I've never seen any evidence that Bob chose the name because of anything about the Welsh poet.

29 - "the pseudonym Billy Boy Grunt."

I suspect he is referring to Blind Boy Grunt.

48 - "hounded by Dylanologists."

I think this demeans this term, which has come to refer to people who have undertaken studies of Dylan's art and life work.

52 - "muddled narrative of the song."

I've never read anyone else refer to anything about the Blood on the Tracks album as "muddled". It is one of his greatest masterpieces. Bob doesn't write muddled narratives.

73 - "He became the first songwriter to win the prestigious award"

Nope. A Bengali literary giant, who probably wrote more songs than Bob, preceded Dylan’s win by over a century. Rabindranath Tagore, a wildly talented Indian poet, painter, and musician, took the prize in 1913. See here.

There are many Wikipedia pages written about Dylan and his life work. They are generally quite good, written by Dylan experts. I would start there in looking into any topic related to Bob and his music. Today is his 80th birthday. 🎶

@Ron Thanks Ron! I love the detail about the missing apostrophe in “Dont”.

@simonwoods Exactly, me too! It's one of my most favorite Dylan oddities. It's also one of the best tests of authenticity of whether someone really does love and/or know about Dylan or are they just phonies?

I learned that from Salinger. 😁
