Travel has provided me with a Caffrey’s stout. An ale previously unknown.

A pint glass filled with dark beer labeled Caffrey's Black Stout sits on a table.

@MylesInTheNorth a fine one if memory recalls - but memory being what it is - I checked the Wiki, discovering that I had my last taste when Caffreys still had a Caffrey in the company - though after Bass bought them. Sad to see them part of Coors.

@JohnPhilpin I remember loving the original Caffrey’s back in the early 90s. The later version not so much, and then it disappeared from UK pubs for a long time (near me at least). This black stout version was nice, but wasn’t as smooth as I would have liked.

@MylesInTheNorth yeah - I am talking late 80s (ish) - at least for my ‘last one’. Have you ever come across Black Sheep? They have a stout - never tried because when I find myself facing a BlackSheep pull - I drift towards Old Peculier. But it does get good reports.

@JohnPhilpin Not sure I’ve tried their stout? I’ll certainly keep an eye out for it.
